We went to Baduzzi on our anniversary date night and it was perfect! To start, the location is ideal being right in Wynyard quarter and right in the hustle and bustle. The indoor and outdoor flow of the restaurant is great, but it’s even better that everything outside is covered with heaters so you don’t have to worry about the weather.
With so many delicious sounding menu options, we obviously had to try a few things and share. We started with the signature meatballs. We were told by the waitress that this was a “must try”, and it didn’t disappoint. The flavor of the meatballs made it taste as though it’s been marinating for days. Then we went with the saffron and potato tortellini and OMG I wish there were more. Each tortellini was like a puff of heaven. The brown butter sauce fit perfectly with the goats curd. Everything about the dish made me want more - I am a sucker for homemade pasta and goat cheese though… We thought it would probably be best to get some greens since our meal was going to be so carb and protein heavy. Those were good but nothing outstanding. Now onto the mains…We obviously had to try one of their “bisteccas” (aka Italian steak) and it was cooked and seasoned to perfection. We also got the special prosciutto wrapped pork, and to my surprise the white polenta was actually the star. It was creamy, flavorful and delicious. The pork was good, but nothing spectacular. The stars of the night were definitely our two starters, meatballs and tortellini.
Overall this restaurant hit all the points…Food, vibe, and service. Although it’s on the pricey side, it’s a perfect date night. We ended up skipping dessert to go to a special dessert place in town instead. The whole night was wonderful, starting with a beautiful meal and finishing with strolling in the viaduct on a starry night.
